Titicaca Lake E

The big lake on the boarder from Peru to Bolivia in the highlands is fascinating, clear and icy cold. We were the only ones who swam in the sea, and that shortly!!The natives warned us, nobody will survive who enters the lake, because sirenes and giants will kill everybody. Nevertheless, we overlived :)

The population increased in the last few years from 3 families to 30, thanks tourists. On the small islands there are information about their life, souvenir shops, even a possibility to stay overnight. Very business- minded, those natives!

Most popular of the titicaca lake are the "floating islands". You can reach them by boat from Puno - at tourist prices.

Ilha do mel - E

Ilha do mel

Not far away from Cotijuba you can find a paradise for tourists, that seems to be left naturally: Ilha do mel.

You can take the bus from Cotijuba, on weekends also a tourist train with tourist fee, but through a nice landscape, but only to Paranguá. The tour by train is an attraction, therefore longer than going by bus. From Paranguá you have to take the bus to reach the harbor for ilha do mel, but it is only a short way.
The island consists of 2 parts, the northern one is a reservation and only open for tourists at the beach. The southern part has nice trails through the forest. Starting from the middle of the island you can walk at about 2 hours to the south. We took a boat to the middle of the island and the next day another boat back to the continent.

On the island there are only bikes and motorbikes, no cars. Normally you can walk and watch birds and lizards, protected by the woods from the sun and mostly plain.
In the tense middle of the island and in the south you have harbors with regular boat-connection to the continent. Next to the harbors there are small shops and accomodation with different prices.

The coast itself is vacant with few exceptions and you can find wonderful beaches at any taste. What about severage collection - we did not find out. the fact is that I got an infection at the island, probably by dirty water in the sea.

To reach the south of the island, we had to pass a portal of stone . Wild and romantic :))
